Opinion très partagée! Nous connaîtrons probablement les résultats de ces prédictions en janvier prochain! Pour l'instant, sa part de marché serait de 6,8%, selon WebSideStory (et plus élevée selon d'autres).

Note: il s'agit effectivement du vote Powhertz le plus populaire depuis l'an 2000, mais il faut dire que le vote est resté tellement longtemps qu'il est certain que des gens ont eu la chance de voter 2 ou 3 fois! Aussi noter que les visiteurs de Powhertz sont demeurés étonnemment peu haineux d'Oracle, malgré leur très médiatisée tentative d'acquisition hostile de PeopleSoft.
Note: it was indeed the most popular Powhertz poll since the year 2000, but we have to admit that the vote lasted for so long that for sure some people had the chance to vote 2 or 3 times! Also to note that PowHertz' visitors remained surprisingly unhateful of Oracle, despite their much-mediatized hostile takeover attempt of PeopleSoft.

Ce vote a duré exceptionnellement longtemps, car je me disais toujours que je le changerais pour la sortie de PowHertz 3, qui n'est toujours pas sorti au moment d'écrire ces lignes!

Donc, elles ne sont effectivement plus très utilisées, mais pas au point de retirer les lecteurs des nouveaux PCs! Un message clair pour les petits fabricants qui veulent simplement économiser 15$ sur le PC qu'ils vendent 450$ et plus...

Qui aurait cru, jusqu'à l'année passée, qu'un jour ICQ et AOL seraient menacés dans le domaine de la messagerie instantanée? C'est pourtant ce qui arrive de plus en plus, comme ce sondage en témoigne. Le phénomène est exactement le même que celui rencontré dans le marché des fureteurs Web entre 1998 et 2000; Microsoft tire énormément de l'arrière dans un marché spécifique, alors il intègre son produit de relativement faible popularité à l'intérieur de ses produits-vedette et soudainement, le marché se renverse. Ce renversement sera toutefois nécessairement plus long que celui des fureteurs, car l'utilisation d'un client de messagerie instantanée par une personne dépend de l'utilisation des gens de son entourage, ce qui n'est pas le cas pour un fureteur. Exemple: la personne qui s'achète un ordinateur avec Windows ME/XP et MSN Messenger pré-installés ira très fort probablement quand même télécharger ICQ s'il connaît plusieurs personnes qui sont sur ICQ, alors que la personne qui débutait avec son Windows 98 ne voyait peut-être pas d'intérêt à télécharger Netscape même si c'est ce que ses amis utilisaient.
Who thought, until last year, that someday ICQ and AOL would start being in danger in instant messaging? Yet, this is what we are witnessing more and more, like this poll tends to show. The path is pretty much the same as the one followed by the Web browser market between 1998 and 2000; Microsoft is hugely far behind in a specific market, so it integrates its product of a lower popularity inside its flagship products and suddently, the market is kind of flipping over. This "flip over" will, however, necessarly be slower than the one we saw in Web browsers, because the use of an instant messenger by one person depends on the use of the people this person knows, which was not the case with browsers. Example: the person who buys a computer with Windows ME/XP and MSN Messenger pre-installed will be very likely to download ICQ anyway if this person knows many people who are on ICQ, while the person who debuted with his Windows 98 probably did not see the point of downloading Netscape even if that's what all of his friends were using.

Une surprise; je m'attendais à ce que Morpheus termine premier, mais il a été surclassé par son rival KaZaA dans ce vote. Morpheus a même longtemps eu un seul vote pour lui, mais a été chercher le 10e et dernier vote enregistré à ce sondage pour se sauver d'une déception totale.
A surprise; I was expecting Morpheus to finish first, but it was completely outperformed by its rival KaZaA in this poll. Morpheus even had only a single vote for a very long time, but managed to avoided the worst by grabing the 10th and last vote recorded in this survey.

Premier sondage Powhertz concluant depuis environ un an et demi! Merci! On remarque toute une différence dans les chiffres par rapport au même sondage mené en fin 1998 et début 1999, Netscape étant grand perdant et Microsoft étant, malgré les 56 000 bonnes raisons de les détester, grand gagnant. Opera est aussi en hausse, mais sa croissance est quand même très décevante par rapport à la valeur du logiciel (Opera 5.01 a remporté le titre Powhertz du meilleur fureteur de 2000 et est en excellente position pour réobtenir le titre pour sa version 5.11 en 2001).
First results-generating Powhertz poll since nearly a year and a half! Thank you! We notice a big difference in the numbers compared to the same poll made in late 1998 and early 1999, Netscape being the big loser and Microsoft being, despite the 56 000 good reasons to hate them, the big winner. Opera is also on a rise, but this rise is still very deceiving considering the value of the software (Opera wont the Powhertz award for the best Web browser of 2000 and chances are that it will obtain the title again in 2001 for its version 5.11).

Je croyais vraiment qu'il était impossible de faire pire qu'au dernier vote (6 réponses), mais on dirait que tout est possible! Soit que vous n'avez pas d'intérêt pour le cas Microsoft, soit que les voteurs sont en vacances! Évidemment, rien à conclure de si faibles résultats, mais de toute façon on sait maintenant que le juge Jackson a recommandé de briser l'empire en 3 compagnies.
I really thought it was impossible to do worst than the last vote (6 hits), but it seems everything's possible! You don't have any interest for the Microsoft case or the voters are gone for vacation! Of course, there's nothing to conclude with so weak results, but anyway we know now that the judge Jackson has ruled for the split of Microsoft into 3 companies.

C'est certain que c'est moins intéressant quand le grand gagnant d'un sondage est le choix "autre"! Parmi, ces "autres", je sais qu'il y a une nouvelle version de Renegade, le noyau de Linux 2.4.x, probablement aussi NHL 2001, peut-être Microsoft Windows Millenium, Thief II, 3Dwm 1.0, WinZip 8.0, MacOS X, Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux, GNOME 1.4/2.0 et Red Hat Linux 6.2/7.0, mais chose certaine les voteurs auraient dû faire un "user suggestion" plus souvent! Pour le reste, KDE 2 surprend en rejoignant les déjà célèbres Windows 2000 et Duke Nukem 4, Netscape déçoit légèrement mais pas trop, et finalement on voit que les visiteurs de PowHertz ne semblent pas tellement des amateurs de Solaris!

Faire ce vote sur Internet dirigeait un peu les réponses vers les programmes de "chat" et les fureteurs Internet et au contraire réduisait les chances des programmes de babillards électroniques. Les résultats ne sont donc pas très étonnants, quoi que le fait que personne n'ait voté pour un jeu d'action à la 1ere personne (qui ont pourtant toujours été extrêmement populaires sur PC) et 2 personnes aient pris pour un autre type de jeu surprend un peu. Le fait que WordPerfect et Lotus 1-2-3 ne récoltent rien révèle principalement, selon moi, que les visiteurs de Powhertz sont plutôt des jeunes qui n'étaient pas en entreprise quand ces révolutionnaires logiciels sont apparus.
By making this vote on the Internet, it was sure that chat programs and Web browsers were going to rank in the top spots and that BBS programs had lower chances of performing, so the results aren't surprising at all. However, I'm a little bit surprised that nobody voted for a 1st-person action game (that have always been extremely popular on PC) and that 2 people chose a game of another kind. According to me, the fact that WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3 doesn't get any vote mainly reveals that the visitors of Powhertz are mostly young people who weren't in business when those revolutionary programs were released.

Enfin! Une question du mois qui génère des résultats (37 votes)! La dernière avait été particulièrement décourageante...Disons qu'en gros, le monde ne croit pas que les délais dans la sortie de Windows 2000 vont faire mal à Microsoft, mais il y a quand même une part assez importante du monde (plus de 40%) qui croient que ça a une influence.
Finally! A question of the month that generates results (37 votes)! The last one have been so disappointing... Let's just say that in general, people don't think the delays in the release of Windows 2000 will be athreat to Microsoft, but there is an important part (more than 40%) that thinks it has an influence.

Il n'est même pas nécessaire de commenter ce vote du mois avec le si peu de votes qu'il a généré! Peut-être que trop peu d'entre vous ont entendu parler de StarOffice (pourtant excellent et gratuit), mais peu importe, le résultat est là: 8 votes seulement (et je connais la provenance de 7 des 8 votes (des amis)!!!). Espérons en tout cas que cette tendance à la baisse dan sles votes se terminera là.
It isn't necessary to comment this vote with the so few votes it generated! Maybe too less people heard of StarOffice (nonetheless excellent and free), but anyway, the results are there: 8 votes only (and I know 7 of the 8 voters (friends of mine)!!!). Let's wish that the next one will be better.

Définitivement le vote du mois qui a suscité le moins d'intérêt auprès de mes visiteurs et aussi celui dont les résultats sont les moins intéressants. McAfee 1er, Norton2e, un certain nombre de logiciels différents qui ramassent les miettes, tout ce qu'il y avait de plus prévisible, et seulement 22 votes au total! On va se reprendre au prochain!
Definitely the vote of the month that seem to have had the less interest by my visitors and also the one which results are the less interesting. McAfee 1st, Norton 2nd, a couple of different software to pick the rest, it was very predictable, and a total of only 22 votes! We'll try to do better on next!

On voit bien la lutte Microsoft / Linux dans ce très intéressant vote. Les fans du "open-source" ont fait 16 votes au total contre 15 votes pour la famille de produits Microsoft Windows. Un vote serré qui a aussi permis à BeOS de se démarquer en allant chercher la 5e place.

La vente de Netscape à America Online semble ne pas avoir aidé la cause de Netscape qui avait une très grosse avance au début qui s'est détériorée sans arrêt dans le dernier mois.
The sell of Netscape to America Online doesn't seem to have helped Netscape who was leading very easily at the beginning and haven't stopped losing it's advance in the last month.
